What is microneedling?

Sometimes referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy, microneedling can also help to treat scars and stretch marks, large pores and acne, as well as signs of ageing. The process uses a pen-shaped tool to deliver tiny punctures to the skin using very small and fast-moving needles in a “stamping” motion only a few millimeters deep (and invisible to the naked eye). At the same time, active medical-grade skin products containing vitamins and other beneficial ingredients are applied to penetrate to deeper layers of the skin. This stimulates the natural healing process in the skin, resulting in the production of new collagen and elastin, and a rejuvenated, more youthful complexion.

Is the treatment painful, and how long is recovery time?

While some areas of the face can be a little sensitive, the treatments are relatively pain-free, with no need for numbing cream. The advanced microneedling
device we use, the Dermapen4, has more and faster-moving needles than other devices, meaning the pain will be quite minimal in comparison to traditional
microneedling treatments.

Straight after a treatment, your skin will be plump and glowing, but also may look a little pink and feel a bit sensitive. This is why we apply a cooling, calming and protective lotion (Dermapen’s CoverRecover) to reduce and camouflage redness, along with SPF30 protection, so you can go straight back to the office if you wish.  However, it’s important you try not to touch your face or wear makeup for the next 12 hours, so it’s best not to do a treatment right before an event. Within 24 hours your skin should look more normal, however you’ll want to ensure you are using sun protection and reduce the use of very active skincare products for the next few days.

How many treatments do I need and when will I see results?

The amount of sessions needed will vary depending on what you are treating, and what you’d like to achieve. Fine lines and surface pigmentation may only need 3 treatments for great results, and deeper wrinkles or scars may need up to 6 treatments for your optimal outcomes. The treatments are usually spaced between 3 and 8 weeks apart.

Results will be visible straight after your first treatment, in that your skin will be plumper and glowing for the next few weeks, although the long-term results will come within a few months after treatments. This is because the skin needs time to generate new collagen and elastin for your rejuvenated complexion, and these results will continue to improve with each treatment.
